Evolving Your Practice
This photo from 2016 reminds me just how much my yoga practice has grown and changed over time. At this time, I was all about pushing myself physically. I have always been somewhat of a rule follower, and I was concerned with making my poses look perfect and doing exactly what my teachers said. I experienced little connection to my inner self and to yoga philosophy, which is the core of yoga practice.
Over time and through many hours of practice, service, and trainings, I’ve learned that my yoga practice is not simply about following rules to achieve the perfect looking pose. To me, it’s about exploration of the self, the breath, the body and the spirit. As I experience the poses in my body now, I’ve learned to focus less on how my body looks and more on how it feels.
Is your yoga practice mainly focused on asana (physical poses)? If you are looking to deepen your practice in new ways, I encourage you to open your heart to the full spectrum of what yoga has to offer. I’d love to share more of that with you soon!
